DUOGEN WIND/WATER GENERATOR

Click thumb nail for larger image

Wind Mode                Water Mode

The Duogen is an English design incorporating both wind and water turbines. The wind turbine is removed in seconds and the water turbine then slots into its place. At 5-6 knots the water turbine can provide enough power to run all the boats systems, including allowing the kids to watch TV! On both the Pacific and Atlantic crossings we ran for 10 days without having to reach for the engine keys. Only a drop in wind meant the engine was required for battery charging. Many spares are included including alternator bearings and a spare tower.

AIR X MARINE 400 WATT WIND GENERATOR

The Air X Marine (purchased July 2004) is mounted on a custom built stainless steel arch to provide clean air to the blades. Cables were oversized to give minimum voltage loss. (Note this unti is self regulated).

KYOCERA 120 WATT SOLAR PANEL

Rated at around 7 amps maximum output this solar panel at the time of purchase in July 2004 was the biggest single panel available. Power to the batteries is regulated via a Flexcharge 25AMP smart regulator, preventing over charging when used in conjunction with either wind/water generators, or main engine. The panel is mounted on a custom built stainless steel arch to reduce shadowing from other parts of the boat to a minimum. Cables were oversized to give minimum voltage loss.

850 WATT 12VDC TO 220V AC INVERTER

240V AC BATTERY CHARGER

The C-Charger 5000 series 40AMP battery charger provides dedicated battery charging when connected to shore power whether via 240V or 110V connection.

SHORE POWER CONNECTIONS 240V & 110V

The boat is basically 240V but the current owner has installed a custom built step up transformer so that in places where only 110V is available a connection to shore power is made via an external socket which is then run through the transformer to provide 240V for use with the 40AMP battery charger and all other 240V boat sockets. All cabins (apart from heads) have 240V plug sockets. An auto sensing switch is installed which allows use of the transformer depending which voltage supply is in use.
